The Changing Face of HR: Navigating in the ‘New Normal’
Friday, April 16, 2010
8:00 am - 5:30 pm

The emerging economic landscape has employers and employees operating in a vastly different manner than even one year ago. What changes are occurring, and what impact do these changes have on how HR professionals address issues that impact the human capital of their organizations? This environmental change is so significant that it will require a sea change in the way HR engages with its leaders, employees, and organizations. This conference will explore HR’s new role, focusing on the changing face of HR, and how HR professionals can navigate in the ‘new normal.’

The HR Tomorrow Conference planning committee, made up of CHRLS alumni, staff and faculty, is currently accepting proposals for breakout session presentations related to this theme. Sessions are 70 minutes in length, allowing approximately 50–60 minutes for the presentation and the remaining 10–20 minutes for a Q & A session.

The committee is looking for breakout session proposals that will provide a concentrated look into HR functional areas and define the recent practice changes that have occurred. These sessions should allow HR professionals to take useful, realistic tools and strategies back to their workplace.

Ideal presentations will demonstrate how HR’s practices and engagement with the leaders, employees and organizations they support have changed to keep pace with the transformation businesses have experienced. Content should provide attendees with new processes, tools, and people–practices that support HR’s newly defined priorities in today’s business environment. In the ‘new normal’ – defined as a new business climate following a major recession – where is HR’s focus most needed? Topics may include:

  • Talent Management
  • Talent Acquisition/Recruiting
  • Measuring Business Results
  • International HR Management
  • Labor Relations
  • Leadership Development
  • Global Business Culture
  • Competitive Compensation and Benefits
  • Diversity and Culture
  • Organizational Design and Effectiveness
  • Social Media

Your proposal should include:
—Your presentation title and applicable HR practice area
—Brief presentation description (up to 200 words)
—Well-defined, realistic learning objectives that can be achieved in the time allotted
—Explanation of how your presentation will provide participants with the “hands-on” experience they will be looking for in the breakout sessions
—Three places/conferences where you have previously presented, to demonstrate speaking experience

Our conference facilities feature the latest technology, allowing for PowerPoint presentations, overhead projection, and video presentations. The deadline for presentation proposal submissions is December 9, 2009. Submit proposals here. Review of the proposals will occur immediately following the deadline, with selection of final speakers expected by the middle of January 2010.

For additional information or further questions, please contact Anne Obst, CHRLS External Relations Coordinator, at or 612-626-9748. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the conference!
